FAQ
What image formats does Choppy support?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP. You can mix formats in a single batch — each file is compressed independently and you see the size savings for each one.
What does the compression strength slider do?
It controls the quality vs. file-size trade-off. Higher settings preserve more detail but produce larger files. Lower settings give smaller files with some visible compression. For most web images, 75–85% is a good balance.
Will my images look different after compression?
At quality settings above 80%, most images look virtually identical to the original. Below 70% you may notice compression artefacts in photos with fine detail or gradients. The before/after file size is displayed so you can decide.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Drop as many files as you like — Choppy processes them all in parallel. Download results individually or grab all of them as a single ZIP archive.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All compression runs locally in your browser using your device's processing power. Your images never leave your device and are not stored anywhere.
Does the tool work offline?
Yes. After your first visit the tool is cached by the service worker and works fully without an internet connection.
